I am most at
home in my studio, giving my
creatures.... |
| ....an endearing
charm..... |
|
I live in Sussex, England with my husband
and black labrador, Millie. I have two sons and two
granddaughters, so far. I was introduced to ceramic
sculpture whilst studying art at school. I was lucky
enough to be taught by a very gifted potter.
I
qualified
to teach Art at Brighton College in 1971 but at
that time, I chose to teach special needs teenagers at
Newhaven and Brighton, England. Whilst I was bringing up
my children, I spent my spare time making flowers, animals,
plates and pots for family and friends. As
my skills developed, I acquired a kiln and began to sell
my work locally.
I have a real passion for animals, and that has
now become my sculpture speciality. I feel that
my work reflects my personality. My love
for animals and my sense of humour is transferred to
each and every sculpture I produce. All my creatures
are completely hand made for every order, they are
individually unique and have a personality of their own;
sometimes it's hard to let them
go! |
The collection of
Meerkats you see in the photograph represents the first
half of a collection which I am making to be shown at
local craft fairs, shows and galleries. Eventually,
there will be around a hundred of them. They convey my
respect for wild creatures, by humanising them to imply
that they are on a par with us and with all animals
that inhabit our planet.

|
Meerkats make the
perfect subject. They are endearing and full of charm,
fun and have a wonderful personality. The Major is the
main character and is on look-out with his binoculars.
The others wear hats, belts, jewellery, hearing aids or
they are sleeping, cheering, crying or adopting other
human-like postures.
I love what I do and I'm
passionate about my art and my ceramic creatures.
People who own pieces of my work say that they
have their own special energy and I hope that you
will feel the same way too.
